My Mental Health Journey

Today is World Mental Health Day and I would love to share my experience with you my queens 👑.

There was a time in my life when I was teetering on the edge of depression. My family was going through  financial strain, I had no personal income, my business was closed,I was in debt and I was completely unmotivated. I didn’t want to talk to anyone. I withdrew from friends and family, avoiding calls and invitations, declining events, and just sinking deeper into isolation. I became irritable and impatient, yelling at my kids at the slightest provocation.

A lot of times, my mom or friends would call and ask, "Blessing, where have you been? You’re so scarce like gold o." But I continued avoiding everyone, telling anyone who wanted to visit that I wasn’t in town.

The Turning Point: One day, my daughter, Roxy with her innocent and frustrated face—asked me a question that pierced through the fog I was in. She said, "Mom, why are you always angry?" That statement struck my heart, and in that moment, I realized I was transferring my frustrations onto my children. I didn’t want them to experience this side of me.

I knew something had to change. I couldn’t continue down this path, not for myself and certainly not for my family.

The Healing Process: From that day forward, I made a conscious decision to turn things around. I started reaching out to friends and family, attending hangouts again, and rejoining life. I prayed more, read uplifting articles, and even began volunteering for NGOs and foundations. These small steps brought a new sense of purpose into my life.

Today, I’m in a completely different state—mentally and emotionally. I am so happy now, living my life to the fullest. I enjoy my time with my children, my husband, and my friends. The weight has lifted, and I feel free.

A Call to Action: If you're reading this and find yourself in a similar space, please know that you are not alone. Mental health is so important, and it’s okay to reach out for help. Accept support from those who love you—they care deeply about you, even when you can’t see it.

Problems in life will never finish , but you can always find ways to make yourself happy. Pray, hold onto faith, and take the steps needed for your mental well-being. You owe it to yourself and the people you love.

Signs of Mental Health Struggles: If you're unsure of what mental health struggles can look like, here are a few common symptoms to watch for in yourself or others:

1. Withdrawal from friends, family, or social activities.

2. Irritability or anger over minor inconveniences.

3. Lack of motivation or energy to carry out daily activities.

4. Changes in eating or sleeping patterns.

5. Feelings of hopelessness or being overwhelmed by life.

Support Others: If you notice any of these signs in someone close to you, please reach out to them. A simple phone call, message, or visit can make a world of difference. Sometimes, all someone needs is to know that someone cares.

Let’s be there for each other.
