International Day of The Girl Child 2024
This year, my daughter Roxy did something simple, yet profound. In a little corner of our compound, she planted some corn. With the tiny seeds in her hand, she was determined to nurture them into something bigger. Day after day, she watered it, checked on it, and made sure it was doing well. Weeks passed, and to her delight, the corn began to sprout.
What I found amazing about this simple act wasn’t just the corn growing—it was watching her dedication, care, and belief that something so small could become something big with patience and effort.
Watching her, I was reminded of what it means to be a girl with a dream. Sometimes, it feels like we have to plant our seeds in less-than-ideal soil, but with enough care and determination, we flourish. This corn was more than just a plant; it was an evidence to the strength and resilience in her—and in every girl.
On this International Day of the Girl Child, I want to celebrate this spirit of nurturing, growing, and blooming in the face of challenges. Our girls are planting their seeds every day—whether it’s in education, sports, art, or simply dreaming of a better tomorrow.
Just as Roxy's corn flourished, so too will their futures, as long as we provide them with the care, attention, and resources they need.
Please pay attention to your girl child and give her every support you can, you're building a future leader
